French Open

Two weeks every year, between the middle of May and the early part of June, in the city of Paris, France, the French open, also known as the Tournoi de Roland-Garros is held. French Open tennis is a major event in the world of tennis. French Open tennis is history in the making each as every year, the popularity of French Open tennis and tickets' sales soars.

The French Open winners, French Open schedule, and French Open tennis and television schedule of the French Open tennis tournament is a matter of interest to many fans each year. The 2007 French Open will be remembered by fans just as much as some of the more memorable French Open events have been throughout the years, and to collectors and tennis enthusiasts world wide, a French Open tennis ball from 2007 will one day be every bit as valuable as a specific souvenir from the 2003 French Open tennis tournament or any other well known tournament.

Consider such memorable tennis greats like the 1989 French Open winner, Michael Chang who became the youngest male to ever win the French Open, a record which still stands. Next in line to the 1989 French Open winner, in age, is Sanchez Vicario, who was just three months older than Chang, with Monica Seles holding the record for the youngest female to hold a French Open title.

Rafael Nadal began a winning streak when the 2005 French Open tennis results were in, by defeating Mariano Puerta 6-7, 6-3, 6-1, and 7-5. Nadal has been able to hold on to the title since the 2005 French Open tennis tournament, making himself the first man since Bjorn Borg to win the tournament in three successive tournaments.

Another interesting fact about the French Open is the fact that it has continually become known as a tournament known for upsets. The French Open is the most prestigious tennis tournament anywhere that uses a clay court. The difference in this type court, where court conditions (clay courts are said to be much more 'slow playing', meaning they slow the ball down and produce a higher bounce, than other type courts such as grass or other hard surface courts) and the fact that the men's tournament consists of five sets without a tiebreak in the last set, makes the French Open the single tournament that most players consider the most physically taxing of all the world's tennis tournaments.

As a result of the unique challenges of clay courts, players who have more expertise with this type court have proven more successful than often higher ranked tennis players. Players like Jimmy Connors (considered one of the best men's singles players of all times) Pete Sampras who has 14 Grand Slam titles to his credit, and the current number one ranked world tennis competitor, Roger Federer, have never won a single French Open Championship.
