Famous Tennis Players

It's difficult to escape the impact that famous tennis players have on the game of tennis. For some people, they develop an interest in the game only after becoming interested in something about a famous tennis player. We tend to be fickle and are more interested in how a person looks than what they do for a living, so if we see a famous male tennis player in a television commercial promoting a product, and he catches our eye, not only will be buy the product, we will become interested in tennis. The same thing happens with men who see famous women tennis players, though men are more likely to have pictures of famous tennis players who caught their eye, especially in this day of the Internet.

The advertisers know what happens when they put famous female tennis players into its advertisements, and they bank on them attracting the attention of the male population, but on the other hand, the various tennis organizations know they will gain momentum and new fans because of the exposure of any of its famous professional female tennis players. How long the interest lasts will depend upon the length of the career of that popular tennis player and the fickleness of the new fans who joined in just to see a particular player who caught their eye. Most people had probably not heard of Stephanie Graph, the famous tennis player until her face appeared on television or in magazines, and it wasn't because she was new to tennis at that time, but no one had previously seen her face off the tennis court.

Think about anyone you know who is a famous tennis player, and it is likely that you never gave them a second thought even as a tennis fan until you saw their face someplace else. John McEnroe is a perfect example—many people never heard of him until he married Tatum O'Neal, but from that day forward his name became a household word even after they divorced. Likewise, few had heard of Steffi Graf until she was connected to Andre Agassi, so the impact that rich and famous tennis players have on the game can never be overlooked by any means.

For many people, different names pop into your head when you think of famous retired tennis players, but for the "Baby Boomer" generation, it's likely to be Billie Jean King who comes to mind. Sadly, many of us cannot think of any famous black tennis players, and an online search only revealed one, Arthur Ashe. Perhaps it is now time to recruit within the minority sectors and gain insight into new blood for famous tennis players.
